As the restoration of Brixton Windmill is progressing well, thoughts are turning to plans for opening the mill to the public in the spring.
At the moment, the plans are as follows:
2 May (bank holiday Monday): Grand opening of the Windmill
This will start with a lively procession from the centre of Brixton (with music, dancing and flowers – and hopefully a maypole) up Brixton Hill to Windmill Gardens. There we will celebrate and welcome Brixton Windmill’s new life as a refurbished and working mill. There will be lots of fun in the park, and the windmill will be open to visitors. So put this date in your diary now.
14/15 May (Sat & Sun): A weekend of activities for National Mills Weekend
Details of this will be announced soon.
After these official opening events, the mill will be open to the public during the summer once a month for two hours, probably on a Sunday afternoon. Again, details will be confirmed soon.
We’re looking for ideas for celebrities we could invite to the official opening festival on 2 May. If you have any suggestions, post your comments here or email info@brixtonwindmill.org.uk.
