New website

Exciting news! In the next few days we will be launching a new website for Brixton Windmill, incorporating this blog and the current website of the Friends of Windmill Gardens.

This blog was set up specifically to record the progress of restoration on Brixton Windmill. Now that the restoration is complete and the windmill is about to reopen, we’ve decided to use it to report on other news and events organised around Windmill Gardens.

We hope you’ve enjoyed reading the blog over the past year and that you’ll stay with us when we move to our new home. This blog will remain available as an archive, but all new posts will be on the new website. We’ll post the URL of the new site as soon as it goes live.

Thank you to everyone for your support, enthusiasm and contributions. We look forward to the next phase in the life of Brixton Windmill – do stay with us and help keep the wind in our sails!

I love the mill – it is a special place to me. I sat in the cupola one afternoon in 1986, I was the only person there apart from the kind member of the park staff stationed at the door who let me in. The sensation of peace at the top of the mill was almost overwhelming, I imagined fields all around stretching into the distance. But it was reassuring to walk back out into the 20th century when all’s said and done!

Many thanks to the restorers, you have done a wonderful job 🙂

Thanks Ric – great to hear your memories. We’re hoping eventually to have a section on mill memories on our new website – you may like to contribute to that!

Hope to see you at one of our open days in the next few weeks! 🙂
