Heigh ho!

Utilities trench

The utilities trench goes right through the playground in Windmill Gardens (photo by Owen Llewellyn)

They dig dig dig dig dig dig dig in the park the whole day through…

The work of excavating trenches for electricity cables and water pipes is well under way, though the final connections to the windmill won’t be made until the scaffolding comes down.

The mill itself has been washed down with a high-pressure hose to remove all the pigeon guano, and the drum of new paint for the exterior has arrived. The external cracks are being reinforced with Spiro Ties and filled with mortar before painting. The hole at the back of the windmill is also being repaired.

The external brickwork around the re-opened door on the first floor is now finished, and a Stonewest carpenter will be fitting a new wooden lintel inside.

Talking of Stonewest, it now features the restoration of Brixton Windmill on its website.
