Holgate Windmill wins £46,500 for restoration

Holgate Windmill Preservation Society in York last night won £46,500 of lottery money to replace the windmill’s five double shuttered sails and frames.

The Society was bidding for the money against another community scheme, an arts project in Rotherham, as part of the Calendar programme on Yorkshire ITV.Viewers were asked to vote by phone for the project they thought most deserving – and the windmill came out on top.

Congratulations to our fellow restorers in York – click here to see their restoration log.
